Just below the summit of Mullaghmore there is a little plateau with a spring at the base of a cliff. Up against this cliff grow ash trees that look ancient and huge (by Burren standards anyway). The whole of Mullaghmore is fascinating: yew trees clinging to vertical cliffs, bright holly trees, hawthorns twisted by the wind into fantastic shapes. And then there are wild goats, mountain hares, pine martins, foxes - all manner of things to see, not to mention the sculpted tiers of the mountain itself. And if you get there at dawn on clear winter's day and have it all to yourself...
