The Aran Islands

The Aran Islands, a group of three islands very similar in terrain to the Burren, lie at the mouth of Galway Bay and run in a SE - NW direction. This photograph was taken in late evening, August 2003, from near Black Head in the Burren. The islands are often in sunshine when the mainland is cloudy, and this adds to their magical, other-worldly quality.
